AES
AES (encryption) definition
AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is a Rijndael-based block cipher algorithm, which is a method of encrypting (scrambling) data. The specification was defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, but the cipher was developed by Vincent Rijmen and Joan Daemen. As of 2021, after 20 years, it is one of the most commonly used principles of protecting information despite having vulnerabilities within some implementations. Because of it's widely-supported standard and usage, many modern processors (CPU) come with AES functions (ISA) embedded in the chip(s) to improve performance, efficiency and resistance to certain kinds of attacks.
