Code (programming) definition

Even in software engineering, "code" has multiple meanings. Programming code is the written instructions that a computer or other program executes or follows, often referring to a human-readable and written format known as "source code". The source code can either be interpreted and translated into machine operations (compiled) before being released, or at runtime (as such in scripting). Such compiled formats is often referred to "bytecode" or "machine code".
