DNC website 'scores green' with digitalbeacon.co

Visiting DNC.Info has a low CO2 footprint

According to a carbon-footprint calculator, loading a webpage here emits as little as 0.006 grams of CO2, graded as amongst the cleanest. This is not surprising, as the website is quite efficient and we're currently hosted in a datacentre powered virtually 100% by a nearby hydroelectric station. We're likely to move to a newer server sometime next year, boosting processing efficiency further.

Besides client's devices and connectivity consuming electricity, websites require running servers and networking equipment, both of which usually run 24/7 - even idle times consume power. This of course often contributes to greenhouse emissions and excessive demand can also increase energy prices. Datacentres, or server farms, typically run thousands of servers, switches, several large routers and other equipment for maintenance, security, connectivity, etc, which all add up to significant electricity consumption. Unless they can source their energy from a very clean or low emission source (like ours), such consumption can also drive eye-watering CO2 emissions as well.

Fortunately DNC relies on a efficient website setup, without ads or excessive media. Not only does this mean less processing and data traffic on our side, but also lower bills for clients who are browsing using a 'capped' connection or pay-as-you-go bandwidth. With lower demand and shorter loading times, their devices and networking equipment would consume less power too. With faster browsing comes with faster sessions too, so one can move on quicker, closer to being finished and thus perhaps powering down their device or sending it on standby.
