Memory

Memory definition

Memory in computing typically refers to the system memory (often the "RAM"), otherwise any part of the system which stores data for a definite or indefinite period of time. Cache and registers (which is similar to the RAM but smaller and faster) are also regarded as memory. File storage (for non-volatile storage, such as SSD's and hard drives) is also another form of memory, though misleadingly labelled as such which causes confusion. Some memory is read-only or write-once, often called "ROM", often as DVD or CD disks.
